The free tier is the whole difference
Submagic’s free trial is three videos. Not three a month — three, then it stops, and they carry a Submagic watermark anyway.
AI Caption Cut’s free tier is unlimited. Caption three videos, or three hundred, at any length, and export every one. They are 720p and carry a small watermark, exactly like Submagic’s trial exports do — the difference is that ours does not run out.
If you never pay us a rupee, you still have a working caption tool. That is not generosity; it is that your exports cost us nothing to produce.
Two minutes, fifteen times
Submagic’s $19/month Starter plan allows 15 videos a month, each capped at 2 minutes. Their $39 Pro plan raises it to 40 videos at 5 minutes. Only the $69 Business plan will take a 30-minute video — and 4K sits behind that same tier.
So a weekly podcast clip longer than five minutes means the $69 plan, or nothing. With AI Caption Cut a 30-minute video is not a tier, it is Tuesday.
The reason is architectural, not generous. Cloud caption tools rent GPUs by the minute, so every minute of your video costs them money — which is why their plans meter you by video length, upload size or credits. AI Caption Cut renders on your own device, so a longer video costs us nothing. There is no meter to run.
What Submagic does better
It is a mature product with a bigger template library than ours, AI credits for extras like B-roll, a viral clip finder as an add-on, and team seats with an API. If you are a team that needs seats, an API and generated B-roll, they are built for that and we are not.
What we will not do is charge you $19 a month to caption fifteen two-minute videos.

Is there a free alternative to Submagic?
AI Caption Cut is free to use with unlimited exports at 720p carrying a small watermark — where Submagic’s free trial is three videos in total, also watermarked. Removing the watermark on AI Caption Cut is a one-off ₹39 for 1080p or ₹59 for up to 4K, per video, with no subscription.
How many videos can I caption per month?
As many as you like. There is no monthly video count and no length cap, on the free tier included. Submagic’s plans were listed at 15, 40 and 100 videos a month, capped at 2, 5 and 30 minutes each, when this page was checked in July 2026.
Does AI Caption Cut upload my video like Submagic does?
No. Your video is read from your disk, captioned and rendered inside your own browser, and saved back to your disk. It is never uploaded. Submagic, like every cloud caption tool, needs your footage on their servers to process it.
What does Submagic do that AI Caption Cut does not?
A larger template library, AI credits for extras such as B-roll, a viral clip-finding add-on, team seats and an API. Those are real advantages if you need them — they are also why it starts at $19 per member per month.
